MUNICIPAL COURT / NIGHT COURT

Let attorney James P. Feely, Jr., fight for you in municipal (night) court.  Call today to schedule your free case evaluation.

There are over 75 different municipalities in the greater St. Louis area, with many of them operating their own municipal court.  These municipalities prosecute many different types of offenses which are virtually identical to state level misdemeanor charges.

Charges can range from basic traffic offenses, to more serious charges such as marijuana possession, drug paraphernalia possession, petty larceny (shoplifting), assault, prostitution, and driving while intoxicated.

Many refer to municipal court as “night court", because most of the time they hold court in the evenings. However some municipal courts now have daytime court schedules much like state courts.

Unfortunately, many people underestimate the seriousness of a municipal court ordinance violation matter.

Some will go to court without an attorney and simply enter a guilty plea to their charge. Sometimes the judge will allow a person to “plead guilty with an explanation”, but that is still a guilty plea.

Entering a guilty plea without proper legal counsel could result in you receiving a conviction on your criminal record. This can wreak havoc on your life, both now and in the future.

What might seem like an insignificant matter can later on turn out to be a huge obstacle when seeking a new job or career change.

Some of the more serious municipal offenses carry up to 90 days in jail.  A municipal court conviction can stay on your permanent criminal record forever much like a state misdemeanor conviction.

Don’t let your future be negatively impacted because you went to “night court” by yourself without first contacting an attorney.

Even matters such as moving violations can cause serious negative consequences if not handled properly.  Mr. Feely strives to make sure his fees are affordable.

Mr. Feely represents clients at all the local municipal courts in the greater St. Louis area, such as Maryland Heights, Ballwin, and Chesterfield.
